Sleeping

A sleeping babyYour newborn baby has no notion of night or day.  You should be prepared for it to take weeks/months, before she/he sleeps through the night.  This does not affect your baby’s health.  But you could find your own health affected because of the lack of sleep.

Who sleeps where?

It’s up to you where your baby sleeps.  But there will always be advantages or disadvantages to where your baby sleeps.  You see, your baby could sleep in your bedroom in his/her crib, cot, or Moses basket or in your bed, or in her/his own bedroom.  It’s what you feel confident in.
A baby sleeping on motherI say that because my own daughter’s has slept in bed with me and my husband, and we have never come across any problems.  We both don’t smoke, which helps.  And the baby feels secure.  Especially if you are breastfeeding it makes it easy to have the baby in the same room.  A disadvantage of having the baby in the same room or bed is that the newborn can be noisy sleepers.  They say the longer you leave the baby in bed with you, it’s harder; it will be to get your baby used to their own room/bed. (I never had a problem with my first daughter). Also they said it can put stress on your relationship especially your sex life.  (That’s another lie, sex doesn’t just happen in the bedroom under the covers, does it?).
